The Basics of Windows XP For Beginners; Windows XP Support. Windows XP is the latest and some say greatest version
of Microsoft's Windows desktop series of programs. It's
the upgrade to the old consumer versions of Windows 95/
98/Me as well as to the business, server, and power-user
versions (Windows NT and 2000). Windows is an operating
system (OS), a program that manages your entire computer
system, That's including the screen, mouse, keyboard,
drives, memory, and central processor (CPU). Windows also
provides a graphical user interface, or GUI, which enables
you to control your computer by using your mouse, icons,
and windows. You can also use Windows keyboard commands.
Windows XP is designed to work for power computer users
and first time computer users, and comes initially in
three versions: Home Edition (for home), Professional
(for offices & home), and 64-Bit Edition (for technical
workstations that use the Intel Itanium CPU). Microsoft
plans to release two more editions of Windows XP, renamed
Windows .NET: Windows .NET Server and Advanced Server
(for network server machines).
Microsoft has produced two editions of Windows. The
older desktop versions were Windows 3.1/ 95/ 98/Me, that
were intended for workstation use--that's, on personal
computers that people used directly. Windows NT 4, NT
5, and 2000 the server versions, that were intended to
be use on servers computers that provide services to other
computers on a network and by high-end users. WinXpFix.com
