Create Password Reset Disk Tip.
By Raymond

A common problem is what to do when your computer account password is forgotten. In an attempt to help out with this problem, Windows XP now includes a Password Reset Disk feature.

To create a Password Reset Disk, open Control Panel from the Start Menu, open User Accounts, then open (click on) the User for which you want to create a Password Reset Disk. Along the upper left side of the window, click on Prevent a Forgotten Password.

This starts the Forgotten Password Wizard. Insert a blank floppy disk and follow the prompts through the Wizard. When the process is complete, label the disk and store it in a safe place. In the next tip, we'll show you how to use the disk if you forget your password. WinXpFix.com

Note: The process is different for XP Professional computers which are part of a Domain.

Passwords Software!

iOpus Password Recovery XP: iOpus Password Recovery XP is one tool that works automatically on Web pages, Windows 9x/NT and Windows 2000/XP systems. Windows can save your passwords, and save you the trouble of finding each one as you need it. The problem is that once you've become accustomed to not typing a password, you may not remember it when you need it. Password Recovery XP helps you remember your password; you drag the mouse cursor in the password field, and the program reveals the characters behind the asterisks. Only the first three characters are revealed in this trial version.

This utility works with most password screens you encounter on a Windows system, such as the password fields on the ISP dial-up dialog box and those within CuteFTP and Outlook Express. However, it does not work with applications that do not actually store the password "behind" the asterisks, such as Windows NT User Manager.

Password Keychain: If you are like most people, you probably use the same (or similar) passwords for a variety of accounts. While this may be easier to remember, it is also very insecure. With Password Keychain, you can manage an unlimited number of unique and hard-to-guess passwords.

Description: This utility will manage the passwords you need to access just about any type of service that requires a username and password. With this, you'll have the freedom to create unique and hard-to-guess passwords and never have to worry about forgetting them.
